There is something undeniably magical about hearing live music as you walk down the aisle.

This month, Columbia City Bridal is excited to introduce you to Maia Wachter, a professional harpist who helps couples create wedding ceremonies that feel personal, meaningful, and completely their own.

Maia has played the harp for 15 years and has spent the past five years performing professionally for weddings and special events throughout Indiana, Ohio, and Southeast Michigan.

A Lifelong Dream of Playing for Weddings

Woman in a blue floral dress plays a harp at an outdoor ceremony in a wooded clearing, with speakers and chairs nearby.

Maia’s journey to the harp began with a different instrument entirely.

She played trumpet as a child, but practicing often felt more like a chore than something she genuinely enjoyed. During her junior year of high school, Maia decided it was time to try something new. She took her first harp lesson, and never looked back.

Even then, she knew exactly where she hoped the harp would eventually take her.

“For so many years, getting good enough at harp to one day be a part of someone’s wedding ceremony was the drive and goal that kept me going,” Maia shared.

She knew she did not want to pursue a traditional orchestra career or major in music in college, but she still wanted music to remain an important part of her life. Performing at weddings became the perfect way to make that happen.

Today, Maia gets to live the dream she began working toward as a teenager.

“I’ll never get over how lucky I am to be a part of so many wonderful wedding ceremonies,” she said.

Making Your Wedding Music Personal

A harp can bring an elegant and memorable atmosphere to a wedding ceremony, but that does not mean couples are limited to traditional classical music.

Maia encourages her couples to choose songs that are genuinely meaningful to them. Her repertoire can include everything from familiar wedding selections to Disney songs, movie soundtracks, video game themes, alternative rock, and other unexpected favorites.

“Live music doesn’t have to be cookie cutter,” Maia explained. “I encourage all my couples to pick the music that means the most to them.”

She does everything she can to help bring each couple’s musical vision to life, including learning custom song requests when possible.

Whether you have always imagined walking down the aisle to a timeless romantic piece or you want to surprise your guests with music from your favorite movie or game, Maia can help create a ceremony soundtrack that feels like you.

What It Is Like to Work With Professional Harpist Maia

After a couple completes the Get In Touch form on Maia’s website, she checks her availability and begins discussing the details of the wedding.

She helps couples think through important ceremony logistics, including:

  • The order in which everyone will walk down the aisle

  • How many songs will be needed

  • Music selections for each part of the ceremony

  • Special requests or custom songs

  • Whether music will also be included during cocktail hour

Maia recommends reaching out approximately six to twelve months before the wedding, especially for popular dates or when a custom song request will be needed.

Her past couples consistently mention her organization, communication, preparation, and willingness to create something personal for their celebrations.

“Maia was such a pleasure to work with. From the very beginning, she made sure she had all details needed to make our day perfect and checked in a few times leading up to our wedding day to make sure nothing had changed. On top of stellar customer service, she added such a beautiful touch to our ceremony. I had many compliments from guests about how beautiful her playing was. Thank you, Maia. Highly recommended!”— Rachel L.

Another bride shared how special it felt to include the harp in her ceremony:

“Maia was an incredible last-minute addition to our wedding ceremony! She took the time to learn a new song to play for us per our request and had great suggestions for others. It felt magical walking down the aisle to a harp. I highly recommend Maia to anyone getting married soon.”— Holly B.

Maia’s ability to stay organized and work independently also helps couples relax and enjoy their day.

“Maia went above and beyond for our wedding! She was very organized, making it easy to communicate with her throughout all of our planning. She even took the time to learn a personal song request and kept an amazing attitude the whole time. She came to the wedding prepared and was self-sufficient setting up for the ceremony and relocating for cocktail hour. I received so many kind words from our guests saying how beautiful her music was. Maia is the full package for anyone looking to hire a harpist or live music! 10/10 recommend!”— Sarah M.

Maia’s Advice for Engaged Couples

After participating in so many wedding ceremonies, Maia offers couples an important reminder:

Something will probably go wrong.

Fortunately, most wedding-day mishaps are small, and they often become the stories couples laugh about later. Rather than allowing an imperfect detail to overshadow the day,

Maia encourages couples to remember what the celebration is truly about.

“The most important part is that you walk away married to your favorite person,” she said.
